EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

People with good emotional intelligence (IE) are conscious of what and how they are feeling as they are engaging in different experiences. IE refers to the ability to recognize, understand, and manage one's own emotions, as well as the ability to recognize, understand, and influence the emotions of others. It involves a set of skills and competencies that enable individuals to navigate their own emotions and interpersonal relationships effectively.

In having an awareness of our own emotions, we become selective in how we express ourselves and in turn, receive an adequate response that is congruent to an empathic-based outcome. While we expect to share honest, candid discussions with our customers, co-workers, subordinates, and leadership, the biggest hurdle is not how we communicate with each other but first how we communicate with ourselves. Emotional intelligence encompasses several key components: Self-awareness, Self-regulation, Motivation, Empathy, and Social skills.
